This service is divided into two sections going under the combined name of Ballarat: The Aboriginal name for Ballarat is “Resting Place” – this resting place describes– “where the services meet”
The services are:
I offer a Dual Diagnosis Service (DD) in Victoria to individuals with a co-morbid Mental Health (MH) and Alcohol and other Drug (AoD) problem, or other complex issues. Initially it is established in the Ballarat area (Central Highlands) in an outreach (visit you at home) capacity, or in our office and if the need exists we will expand to other areas. This service will look at all presenting issues holistically and provide or negotiate the appropriate service requirements. Issues which may require help and support are housing (research has shown that housing is a major issue in those with a DD). Help and support to arrange Alcohol and other Drug withdrawal and/or rehabilitation requirements, monitor and coordinate treatment of their MH problems. Psychosocial issues will be addressed and the coordination of both MH and AoD treatment, support and anger management.
The skills the DD worker will use range from Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), general non verbal and verbal communication skills, etc., ensuring the person understands the effect AoD is having on their MH or other symptoms and visa versa.
